‘wini sleeping’ received a silver award in the documentary category at last month’s 2010 AiPP appa’s. i was unable to attend the judging, however i was lucky enough to meet with the AiPP executive officer Peter Meyers during his recent retreat to Port Douglas. Peter recalled he was there when my print was judged and apparently there was some controversy surrounding it’s eligibility for the category – a couple of the judges considered it was set up – but apparently one of the judges [I can't remember his name] fought for the print to be accepted as a true documentary image. The ankle band had something to do with the judges’ final verdict. And just to enter my own plea… there is no way on earth i would have been able to convince Wini to pose for this image! She was very poorly with a fever fast asleep on the sofa and I was hovering above her hoping she wouldn’t wake up. It is completely unstaged. So I’m very grateful to the judge who argued the point, and a little excited that it drew a little debate. This is my first award so i did a little dance in celebration after seeing the results!
