Our close friends Wendy and Glenn Cambage live on a breathtakingly beautiful property situated in Julatten, in the Cairns Highlands. Last year, with the help of my partner Darren [master builder and carpenter] they completed two unique accommodation lodges, private luxury retreat Sweetwater Lodge. Just before the Christmas break, I visited Wendy, following their first guests’ magical stay. This was the first time I’d seen the lodges completed and I couldn’t wait to take some photographs – under strict instruction to avoid any untidy areas – so i only took a few images. The furniture and balustrade have been crafted by Glenn, interior design and decoration by Wendy – though note the above images show the lodge minus Wendy’s welcoming finer touches. The initial plan was a collaboration of Wendy and Glenn’s creative genius and architecture design by Angus Crowe. Darren Heatley transformed the project from paper to reality. A seed of an idea planted 5 years or so ago has finally come to fruition! The eco lodges are in a tranquil setting abundant with wildlife and birdlife, bordered by pristine Hunter’s Creek featuring a deep swimming hole to cool off in with the resident platypus. Stay tuned for more images of a lodge decked out for the arrival of some guests…or Wendy will kill me!
